Landscaping

Because one crew handles both hard and soft landscaping, levels and drainage are resolved before a single plant goes in the ground — avoiding the rework that happens when those two jobs are split across separate contractors.

What’s included

  • Driveway paving and hard landscaping (decks, retaining walls, steps, drainage)
  • Planting schemes suited to local climate
  • Irrigation and drainage design
  • Outdoor living areas and features

Who this is for

Homeowners landscaping a new build or garden overhaul, and commercial properties needing grounds designed and maintained.

Planting and paving for this climate

A garden here has to survive a dry season with real water restrictions and a wet season that will find every drainage mistake you made. Those two facts should drive the planting scheme and the levels, and most gardens that fail locally fail because they were designed for neither.

We plant for the water that will actually be available. Boreholes and municipal supply are both unreliable enough that a scheme dependent on daily irrigation is a scheme that will brown off, so the structure of our planting is drought-tolerant and indigenous-leaning, with the thirsty material concentrated where it earns its place and can be reached easily.

Levels and drainage come before planting, always. Paving laid without falls, or a retaining wall built without weep holes and backfill drainage, will move and crack in the first heavy season. Because the same crew does the hard and soft landscaping, those are resolved before a single plant goes in — which is precisely the rework that happens when paving and planting are split between contractors.

How we run it

  1. 01

    Survey, levels and drainage

Existing levels, fall directions and where water currently goes in heavy rain. This decides the paving layout before anything aesthetic is considered.

  2. 02

    Layout and planting design

Hard landscaping laid out against those levels, then a planting scheme chosen for the local climate and for the amount of upkeep you genuinely want to do.

  3. 03

    Hard landscaping

Driveway paving, decks, retaining walls, steps and drainage. Falls, sub-base and edge restraint are what determine whether paving is still flat in five years.

  4. 04

    Irrigation and services

Irrigation and any garden lighting or power run before surfaces close up, not chased in afterwards.

  5. 05

    Planting and establishment

Soil preparation, planting and an establishment period with clear instructions on what needs water and for how long.

What this looks like built

Strathaven Courtyard was three metres of unusable side passage between two walls. We terminated it with a covered bar under a slatted timber roof, stepped a hardwood deck down to a pale exposed-aggregate court, and ran a continuous raised planter along one side filled with ornamental grasses and a clipped conifer accent. The grasses do the real work — they move, they catch late light, and they soften two hard parallel walls better than any structure could.

Common questions

Do you do driveway paving on its own?
Yes. Driveway paving, decks, retaining walls and drainage run as standalone hard-landscaping work as well as part of a full garden scheme.
What planting survives a Harare dry season?
We lean on drought-tolerant and indigenous-leaning material for the structure of a scheme, concentrating thirstier planting where it earns its place and can be watered easily. A garden that needs daily irrigation to look acceptable is a garden that will brown off.
How long does a landscaping project take?
A courtyard or garden overhaul typically runs about six weeks. Larger schemes with substantial retaining or drainage work take longer, and every quote carries its own programme.
