Solar fits into a new build or retrofits as a standalone upgrade to a property you already own — sized to what you actually use, not a one-size package.
What’s included
- Full electrical reticulation and wiring
- Solar panel, inverter, and battery installation
- Backup power systems
- Load assessment and system sizing
- Retrofits for existing properties
Who this is for
New-build clients needing electrical fitted from the ground up, and property owners retrofitting solar or backup power onto an existing home or business.
Designing for the grid we actually have
Load-shedding is the design brief here, not an afterthought. A solar and battery system sized off a generic package will either cost more than it needed to or fail to carry the things you actually care about through an outage. We size against your real load — what must stay on, for how long, and at what time of day — rather than against roof area.
The honest version of that conversation separates essentials from everything else. Lighting, internet, a fridge and a borehole pump are a very different proposition from running geysers and air conditioning off battery. Deciding that split properly is what keeps a system affordable, and it is the conversation most quotes skip.
On new builds, the electrical reticulation and the solar design should be drawn together. Running a conventional installation and retrofitting backup later means a second distribution board, essential and non-essential circuits split after the fact, and cable runs that were never planned for it. Designed together, it is one first-fix.
How we run it
- 01
Load assessment
What you actually run, when, and what genuinely has to stay on through an outage. This is the number the whole system is sized from.
- 02
System design
Panel array, inverter and battery capacity sized to that load and to realistic sun hours, with essential and non-essential circuits separated at design stage.
- 03
Reticulation and first fix
On new builds, full wiring and reticulation drawn and installed with the backup system in mind, so there is one first-fix rather than two.
- 04
Installation and commissioning
Mounting, DC and AC installation, board work and commissioning, with the system tested under real load rather than signed off on paper.
- 05
Handover and monitoring
We show you what the system will and will not carry, so expectations match the install rather than the brochure.
What this looks like built
Electrical and solar runs through our own builds as part of the contract rather than as a bought-in trade. On the Borrowdale cluster development the reticulation was designed with the units rather than chased in afterwards, which is what allows essential circuits to be separated cleanly at the board instead of being retrofitted once the building is finished.
Common questions
- Can solar run my whole house during load-shedding?
- It can, but the honest answer is that it is usually not the economical choice. Carrying lighting, internet, fridges and a borehole pump is affordable; carrying geysers and air conditioning multiplies battery cost. We size against what you actually need on and tell you what each tier costs.
- Do you retrofit solar to an existing house?
- Yes. Retrofits usually involve separating essential and non-essential circuits at the board, which is straightforward but needs doing properly rather than bridged.
- Do you do electrical work without solar?
- Yes — full reticulation and wiring on new builds, plus board work and repairs on existing properties.
